Fontaine Jacobs Featured at Mod Coffee
By Jessica Dobson

I have been drawing and painting since i was a child." shares Fontaine Jacobs, Mod Coffee & Tea House's currently featured artist. For Jacobs, art is her passion, describing her time spent painting as "a rewarding form of self expression ."

With a background in illustration and commercial art, Jacobs has attained her career goals with little formal education and is considered a self-taught artist.
She offers a simple secret to her success: "The best way to learn to paint is to paint. I try to paint at least one hour a day...but that usually tums into much more.

Many of Jacobs' works feature beautiful flowers with tremendous color, drawing inspirations from her love of gardening and time spent as a master gardener. When working with watercolors, Jacobs says "because of the spontaneity of the medium, I interacts with the paint . I often just let the paint and water intermingle, and developed the images as they occur,"
she explains.

Jacobs also enjoys oil painting. A much different medium, Jacobs likes to take her time with oil paints, enjoying the increased flexibility has offered a whole new dimension to her work. Jacobs enjoys the spontaneity and looseness you can get from water color and the depth and detail you can achieve with oils.

The transition from watercolors to oil revealed Jacobs true talent: oil portraits. Working from photographs, Jacobs possesses a unique talent for catching a bit of the soul of her subject-a twinkle in the eye, a certain smile, that something special. Jacobs does complete commission portraits, inviting people to upload a photograph or schedule a photo shoot on her web site for a truly unique experience.

Anyone who has not seen Jacobs' colorful watercolors or lifelike oil portraits should stop by MOD Coffee Shop at 2126 Postoffice Street where her work will be featured through October 6. From October 6 to 27.

In addition, Jacobs will have work at The National Society of Artists 27th National Juried Show at The Arts Alliance Center at Clear Lake,200 NASA Parkway, Nassau Bay, Texas. A sampling of Jacobs' work can also be seen on her web site:
